The Roderick Artspace Lofts has won a PCBC Golden Nugget Award of Merit in the Best Affordable Housing Community - 60 to 100 du/acre category.
Roderick Artspace Lofts is a four-story structure that blends 51 affordable, sustainable live/work units for artists and their families with 5,000 square feet of multi-purpose, nonprofit, commercial space for creative businesses.
This property has transformed a vacant lot into an arts destination enhancing an already lively arts scene in the heart of downtown El Paso, and complementing the City’s revitalization efforts.
The apartments feature tall ceilings, concrete floors, and large windows for abundant daylight. A large community gallery and a shared workshop on the ground floor provide space for meetings, events, collaboration, and performances.
Using simple corrugated and perforated metals, along with a golden color quilt of stucco, the building presents a lively and grounded presence for El Paso’s creative culture to convene and live. Perforated metal screens mark the main entry corner, and also provide sun shading for the shared community room.
This project achieved LEED Silver Certification from the USGBC.
